What is DACA?

DACA, or Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals, is a program that provides temporary protection from deportation and work authorization to eligible undocumented individuals who were brought to the United States as children, also known as “Dreamers.” DACA recipients can legally work, study, and live in the U.S. without the fear of deportation for a renewable period of two years.

Who Qualifies for DACA?

To qualify for DACA, individuals must have come to the U.S. before turning 16, continuously resided in the U.S. since June 15, 2007, and meet other specific criteria, including educational or military service requirements.

Duration of DACA:

DACA status is granted for a renewable period of two years at a time, allowing recipients to maintain their legal presence and work authorization in the U.S. as long as they continue to meet the program’s requirements.

Green Card Eligibility:

While DACA provides temporary relief from deportation and work authorization, it does not provide a pathway to obtaining a green card or permanent residency. However, DACA recipients may be eligible for other forms of relief or pathways to legal status based on their individual circumstances.
